I'm going to upgrade my old computer because almost all of the
programs I've looked at lately shown me that I do not have the proper
system.

In my old Supermicro mid Tower I will be installing a new motherboard
(Asus ATX), hard drive (S) SATA WD, video card (ATI) and memory . I
have everything picked out but not ordered.

I plan on reinstalling Windows XP Home. I have Norton Ghost I'm using
for backup. I currently have two IDE hard drives installed using the
second one (D drive) for data backup. I also have a USB IDE hard
drive enclosure if I need it to recover backed up files on the IDE D
drive (if needed) with Norton once I get everything running.

Are there any suggestions you might give as to how I should go about
this. Although I put the original computer together about five or six
years ago I was much younger then (I'm now 74) and with all this new
stuff I feel I can use some basic guidelines. If this is not the
right forum could you point me in the right direction. at

Thank you

Someone brought their PC for a tune up. Dell 2350 with XP home. It had an
error message similar to; 'Generic Host Process for win32 services has
encountered a problem ... for win32 services has encountered a problem and
needs to close

After restarting | Clicked | My Computer | C Drive | Properties | Tools |
Check Now | ticked both slections

This process took 2 times to complete but the last time it took forever and
1 day to complete and was OK.

Restarted. Now it loops into the 'Safe Mode, etc. menu'

Using the control arrows none of the 4 selections will boot up. It loops.

I have recently had some new usb problems that I can't explain. I have an
older Gateway P4 running
WinXP that has 2 front usb 1.0 ports and 2 rear usb 1.0 ports. I have also
installed a pci usb 2.0 card some time ago. Recently, the built in ports
have stopped working properly. If I plug my thumb drive into the front
port, it is recognized and shows up in My Computer or Windows Explorer.
However, I can't access the files on it. I get an error message about
input/output problems. Also, I have an HP Photosmart multifunction printer
plugged into the back. I keep getting balloon notifications down in the
system tray telling me that my HP Multifunction device has been
disconnected, but of course it hasn't. Furthermore, I can't print to this
printer at all. If I send a print job, the printer comes alive and I see
the status screen behaving as if it were taking in all the data prior to
printing. However, this goes on way longer than it should and finally, the
printer spits out a paper with maybe on line printed on it or if the type
was large, only half the line will be printed. So far, it appears that my
pci card is working fine. Also, there are no conflicts in Device Manager.
So evidentally, I'm having some sort of input/output issue. Any thoughts to
what is going on here?
Thanks,
Jim

causing the problems I'm having. On every bootup I always have to press
F1 in order to complete the bootup sequence. I get this message "Rear
Fan Error". The only fan that I have in the rear is the fan in my psu.
Could it be that the fan rpms are not correct due to problems in the
psu? Every since I upgraded my processor from a Intel E6600 2.4GHz. to
a Intel Q6600 2.4GHz. it seem this is when it started. I could be wrong
and it may not have any ties to whats going on but my cpu cooling unit
fan is currently running on high. My system isn' having any problems
with heat. As for my Q6600 processor the core temp are better than
average. They idle in the mid 30c range which I heard is darn good. The
reason I'm concerned is because my computer use to run very quite not
all I heard is the whirling of my cpu fan. Is my cpu fan compensating
for defects in the psu. Can someone please help me this? I'm not very
good in this particular area. I was thinking of purchasing a new power
supply unit upgrading to about 600w but I won't if it isn't necessary.
My system is a Dell Xps/410, currently using Windows Vista Home
Premium, Intel Q6600 2.4GHz. processor, EVGA 8800GTS 512mb video card,
WD 250gig HD, and Creative Audigy audio card. I've also ran a system
diagnostic and it said that the fan cage is out of range. What in the
world can I do to fix this. I feel that if I don't soon it will develop
into a much larger problem.

We've now read that there's also Cat 5e, Cat 6, and Cat 7. I'd be very

Right now, we have only two computers--both running WinXP and using a

Unfortunately I have only ust had chance to report on the current situation.

This is my original post

So a PCI card has been used to see if the problem was with the onboard USB
controller which made no difference, also the PSU has been replaced which
also made no difference.

Does this now look like a motherboard fault?

Thanks

This is my problem:
- I have two USB devices and the manufacturers provided drivers (including
DLL and sys files.). I can operate each of them successfully, however, things
changed since I tried to operate both devices simultaneously. Firstly, Device
Manager in Windows shows that: the later device (the one which is pluged
after plugging in the first one) does not have the approperiate drivers
(Yellow question mark), no matter what the order of plugging. The fact is
that, when I plug in just one device, it works well, everything works like
nothing's happened.
- Maybe that's the reason why I can not operate my software (controlling two
devices at the same time).

My OS: Windows XP SP2, CPU E2200, RAM 2GB.

Would you please tell me what should I do, what is the possible solution?
And please tell me where could I find the materials, tutorials, books, or
anythings related to this problem.

Thank you.

So any ideas on how to repair the disk? The disk is an 500g Seagate an less

Let me be clear - the disk was working fine, until XP reformatted it. Now
the disc is trashed.
