connected on this home P2P network.
A second Vista wireless unit will not connect, insisting there is a problem
with the router and the router must be reset.
There is no problem with the router as the other wireless units can
disconnect and reconnect, both the Vista and XP units.
This is a frequent problem with Vista wireless networking where one unit
insists the router be reset although it is working properly and other units
have no problems disconnecting and reconnecting.
I have never seen this with XP wireless units in multiple wireless networks
using all kinds of computer and router hardware where one computer forces a
reset of the wireless router to which other units are stably connected.
There are no software ways to get the problematic Vista unit working that I
have found, and I have walked through this with a network engineer just for
grins. It isn't that XP units periodically fail to wirelessly connect but
the problematic unit can be fixed without having to reset the wireless
router.
Networking (not just hardware instability but the arcane and unstable
permissions settings) and disc access speeds are what makes Vista the waste
of code it is, and while Win 7 looks more promising I am not holding my
breath since it is based on Vista and comes from Microsoft, where the
mentality of 1970s General Motors executives are in full psychic control of
Steve Balmer et al.
Microsoft should be scared to death because it is becoming more rapidly
about the network rather than the OS than I ever thought possible . . .

I have two possible hardware configurations for one installation of
Microsoft Vista Business. I have acquired two separate product keys, but I
would like to know how to have the keys attributed to their respective
hardware configuration.

I have just booted into the second configuration which promptly asked for a
reactivation. Thus I used the "Change product key" option (and got it
activated with my second key), but I am not sure this was the correct answer
to my problem.

The help doesn't quite forsee this situation ...
Any hints?

Cheers, Franz

Recognizing that longer, more complex passwords provide better
protection, I use long passwords with numbers and symbols, as well as
upper and lower case letters. It would be more convenient for me to
keep these passwords in a Word Document so that I could simply
copy-and-paste them into the various sites as necessary. This Word
Document would then be protected with a single, easier to remember
password.
I am wondering if this is a reasonable strategy. Is it too risky to
have these passwords on a Word Document? I am the only one with access
to my PC. It is in my home and not connected to a network. It is,
however, connected to the internet most of the day.

I posted this before on several newsgroups but never have resolved my
problem. So I'm trying again. I'm running Vista home premium and IE8. I
connect to the internet with dial-up. When I'm connected the computer icon
in the task bar has a red X on it. If I place the cursor on the icon it says
"not Connected". If I right click on the icon and select connect to network
the window comes up and shows my connection and states that I'm connected
with the option button to disconnect.
Why does my system think I'm not connected. Also before when I would close
IE I would receive a window asking if I want to disconnect. I no longer get
that window either.
Your help would be greatly appreciated. Having dial-up this is a pain do to
the phone line being tied up and sometimes not knowing it......
Thanks,
Phil

Without any apparent
explanation, the start button and toolbar disappeared, leaving a blank
screen after logging on. Through investigation, I've managed to restore
these by typing Explorer.exe in the New file (task manager) and running
it, but when you log off, the same thing happens again - blank screen,
no toolbar etc.

Has he corrupted a file somewhere or is it a consequence of a virus
etc? I've tried restoring to a previous date, but this doesn't help.

Can anyone come up with a solution?
